My honey has crystallized! And now???

A situation that usually happens is the honey you bought and took home after some time starts to crystallize! In general, people think that it is a counterfeit product or that it has suffered some kind of adulteration. But don't worry, in this post we will talk about it and explain why this is a normal situation.

Explaining crystallization

Honey is a food produced from the nectar of flowers, collected and prepared by bees. It is rich in various nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, proteins and in greater quantity reducing sugars such as glucose and fructose.

Chemically, we can explain that flowering honeys with higher concentrations of natural sugars of the glucose type have a greater possibility of crystal formation, especially if stored or exposed to lower temperatures.

As a result, it is common to see packages of partially or fully crystallized honey on supermarket shelves, usually because they are air-conditioned environments.

How to reverse the crystallization process?

There are several ways to decrystallize honey on the internet, but in order to avoid degradation of the nutrients present in honey, we recommend using a water bath. Which consists of placing the packaging, preferably without the lid, in contact with water at a maximum temperature of 42°C. After a few minutes you will be able to observe that the honey will gradually return to its liquid state.

Is there any problem consuming crystallized honey?

There are no contraindications to consuming honey in its crystallized form, on the contrary, we can take advantage of the product's versatility and use it in different recipes. From to eat with a simple piece of toast, accompanying fine cheeses and even in the composition of a beautiful cold cuts board, where honeys of different textures help to harmonize with the most diverse ingredients.
